The Albuquerque job market took a hit when the rest of the country did. The 2007 to 2008 recessionary factors hurt many of the largest and smallest businesses in the state. The ripple effect led to many people losing jobs and many others struggling to make ends meet in jobs that did not pay the bills. Therefore, at the end of the year, it's important to look back and wonder what changes the year brought with it.
How Have Things Changed?
Things have changed significantly in the last months. In a recent statement from Governor Martinez, she claims that one of the successes of the year was the agreement with Union Pacific Railroad that will allow the company to build a refueling facility in the area, which adds 3000 jobs to the state. While there has been plenty of work towards management taxes and incentives, there has not been enough push for jobs, many believe.
However, the governor says that is the area of focus for the next year. She plans to push for tax cuts that would help to spur job growth in the city. The fact is, without jobs the state's recovery, which many believe is in fact happening, is going to slow.
What are you concerns about the Albuquerque job market? Are you in a job today that you did not have a year ago? Most importantly, what steps have you taken to improve your ability to try and find jobs? The creation of jobs is one of the most important things for the city and the state. Improving your resume is your biggest challenge this year.
